“I’m looking for someone to share in an adventure that I’m arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone.” — The Hobbit
Eve and James met online in February of 2013. Eve liked James’s smile, his curly hair and glasses. She thought he might be Jewish, but no one is perfect. She wondered what kind of person would use ‘jejune’ in a dating profile, so to find out she emailed him. James found Eve a mystery, and his gut told him this was an important date for him to go on.
They met for tea, where they received prescient advice from a friendly eavesdropping stranger. They heard stories of hippie life in the southwest, that physicists make good lovers (true), and, most importantly, were advised to hang on to each other for as long as life allowed. Eve was impressed when James helped an elderly person who lost their phone. James couldn’t believe he could hold a conversation with someone for four hours.
Among countless other things, James loves Eve’s confidence as a person, her generous soul, her amazing sense of humor, and the highly original songs she makes up. (Especially the ones where every word is ‘James’.) She reminds him everyday that we’re all meant to be kind and gentle people and that life is full of possibility. Eve loves James’s kindness, earnestness, curiosity, and the morning serenades he sings from the shower. She tries to avoid admitting that he is better at keeping the apartment clean, and finds it ironic that a Catholic boy got her to celebrate shabbat every week.
We love going on adventures together. On one such adventure in 2015, Eve proposed to James by a castle, and James proposed to Eve at a farm. Now we are looking forward to many more adventures that await, including with all of you. Be seeing you in September!
